Using the "quilt as you go" method these placemats sew together quite quickly. The stars are appliqued using your embroidery machine but can be done using your sewing machine. No additional stabilizer is needed.
The binding is a wrap around style with mitered corners. No binding strips to cut.
A Walking foot or built in IDT system is a must have for sewing your strips together.
The embroidery star design can de done in a variety of hoop sizes as the stars can be done individually. To do both stars in one hooping a 360mm x 200mm is the minimum sized hoop needed.
Sewing Machine in working order. Basic sewing supplies including walking foot, rotary cutter, fabric clips, fabric marker and pencil, fabric glue (optional), scissors for applique and pins. Open toe foot is helpful if doing machine applique. Hoop for embroidery 360mm x 200mm. Thread- cream or white for construction and blue for embroidery. Fabric requirements- 1 yard blue backing fabric, 1 yard fusible fleece, 1 yard pattern ease, 1/4 yard blue for stars, 1/4 yard red and 10 low volume white or cream fabrics 1/8 yard of 5 and 1/4 yard of the other 5. [NOTE: Fat quarters work for the blue, red and white/cream fabrics.]
If doing machine applique then fusible web required 1/2 yard for stars.
